Baked – not deep fried – these wings are a healthy version of one of our all time favorite appetizers. Tossed in a super simple spicy buffalo sauce, these crispy wings will not disappoint. They’re great for a crowd or a satisfying easy dinner at home. Serve them on their own or with a side of cool ranch. We hope you enjoy them as much as we do! Comment below and let us know.
Why I love these chicken wings:
-
- Healthier – baking them instead of deep frying makes these lower in unhealthy fats and calories.
- Still crispy! Even though the chicken wings are not deep fried, you still get that crispy texture. The secret: toss the wings in 1 tablespoon of baking powder (not soda!) before baking.
- Easy – minimal prep for the wings and the sauce is simple too with just 3 ingredients.

Crispy Baked Buffalo Chicken Wings
Prep Time10 minutes mins
Cook Time50 minutes mins
Total Time1 hour hr
Ingredients
- 3 lbs chicken wing sections
- 1 tbsp baking powder (not soda)
- 1/2 tsp kosher salt
- 1/2 tsp black pepper
- 1/2 cup hot sauce (Frank's Red Hot)
- 2 tbsp butter or ghee
- 1 tsp garlic powder
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 300 degrees. Line a baking sheet with aluminum foil and place wire/cooling rack on top*
- Pat chicken wings until completely dry and place in large bowl.
- Add baking powder, salt and pepper to the bowl. Toss, ensuring chicken is coated on all sides.
- Place chicken on wire/cooling rack, separated and not touching. Bake for 30 minutes.
- While chicken is baking, make the sauce: in a small saucepan over medium heat, combine the hot sauce, butter and garlic powder. Whisk frequently until butter is melted. Remove from heat and set aside.
- After 30 minutes, increase oven temperature to 425 degrees and bake chicken for additional 25 minutes or until crispy and browned.
- Optional: broil chicken for additional 2-3 minutes for extra crispiness. Monitor closely so they don't burn.
- Remove chicken from oven and place in large bowl. Pour buffalo sauce on top and toss to coat.
- Serve with carrots, celery, ranch or your favorite side. Enjoy!
Notes
If you don't have a wire rack or want easier clean up, skip this and place the wings directly on the aluminum foil. They won't be AS crispy, but still tasty!
